Over the past week, President Trump has laid the groundwork to declare a state of emergency over the situation at the southern border, in what is viewed as a last ditch attempt to secure funding for a southern barrier if shutdown negotiations fall through.

It is not guaranteed that a national emergency declaration will secure wall funding, as various left wing activist groups have already promised to challenge it in court immediately.

On Tuesday night, the President gave an address to the public where many speculated that he was making the case for declaring a state of emergency.

In the speech, he painted a dire picture of the situation at the southern border, saying that the inflow of drugs, smuggled children, and crime coming from our border with Mexico was a crisis of the “heart and soul”.

A new development was released this morning that lends credence to the idea that President Trump will declare a state of emergency in order to secure funding for the wall.

The White House’s legal team is preparing a legal justification if Trump decides to declare a state of emergency, in hopes that the declaration will withstand inevitable challenges in court
