One of the leading plotters in the ongoing Israeli coup attempt, Gideon Sa’ar, has denied Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claim that there is an ongoing coup attempt taking place against his leadership of Israel.
“This is not an attempted coup. That is not accurate,” Sa’ar said, before calling for a new Prime Minister to be installed.
Netanyahu’s camp was quick to hit back. The Likud party issued a statement slamming Sa’ar for his traitorous machinations.
“It is sad to see that at a time when the prime minister is protecting the country on all fronts and working to preserve the Likud rule, Gideon Sa’ar is, as he usually does, displaying zero loyalty and maximum subversion,” the statement read.
Sa’ar’s claims comes in the wake of a report by Israel’s Channel 12 that suggested Sa’ar, Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein and Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan were at the forefront of an attempt to oust Netanyahu as leader of the ruling Likud party and form a unity government with the centrist opposition Blue & White party, which is closely aligned with the country’s deep state.
Blue & White, a party led by prominent Generals Benny Gantz, Moshe Ya’alon and Gabi Ashkenazi, and formed for the sole purpose of removing Netanyahu from power, is said to be in close contact with the plotters.
The coup attempt began with on Thursday when Netanyahu was indicted by Attorney General Avichai Mandelbilt, a disgruntled former Netanyahu ally, in a blatant attempt to force the Prime Minister from power.
