Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28 year old community organizer and self-proclaimed “socialist”, succeeded in a primary challenge to Rep. Joe Crowley (D-NY) yesterday night, a shocking victory that has lent fresh momentum to the rising radical leftist movement in the United States.
Crowley had represented the district since 1999, and was touted as a potential successor to House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). His defeat constitutes a major blow to Democratic leadership, which sought to harness the energy of the radical left in the 2018 mid-terms while remaining wedded to establishment policy. To make matters worse for Democrats, Ocasio-Cortez is currently withholding her support for Pelosi’s leadership of the party in the House.
Ocasio-Cortez was endorsed by and is a proud member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), an Antifa-linked organization, which was behind the harassment of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen last week. The DSA, which embraces Marxist theory and boasts Trotskyist and Maoist wings, encourages the revolutionary left to infiltrate the Democratic Party and transform it into a vanguard for international socialism. Ocasio-Cortez was also backed by other subversive organizations, such as George Soros’ MoveOn, and Our Revolution, a far-left entryist group founded by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
Her campaign platform included socializing health care, making public universities tuition free, granting amnesty to illegal aliens, abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), introducing a living wage, and supporting the Palestinian cause.
Ocasio-Cortez’s win is a further sign of the Democrats’ descent into the arms of an extreme, anti-American movement that developed out of Sanders’ failed presidential campaign. In the run up to the 2018 mid-term elections, Republicans would be wise to highlight the growing proximity between the Democrats and the failed socialist ideology that continues to wreak devastation in Venezuela today.
