Dershowitz: ACLU Betrays Its Ethos Opposing Kavanaugh

The former civil liberties organization has abandoned its principles in the age of Trump

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has lost its way, argues attorney Alan Dershowitz, as the once principled organization now kowtows to the radical, authoritarian Left in the age of Trump.

In his op/ed, Dershowitz explains that the influx of new cash from leftists who hate Trump has destroyed the organization’s integrity. They have become a firmly partisan arm of the corporate-funded “Resistance” that is practically sponsored by the CIA, FBI and other deep state organs that are among the world’s worst violators of civil rights.

“The problem is that most of the money is not coming from civil libertarians who care about free speech, due process, the rights of the accused and defending the unpopular,” Dershowitz wrote. “It is coming from radical leftists in Hollywood, Silicon Valley and other areas not known for a deep commitment to civil liberties.”

The ACLU even admits as much, showing the lack of resolve and integrity within the anti-life, pro-degeneracy leftist organization.

“People have funded us and I think they expect a return,” ACLU national political director Faiz Shakir said, after being asked about their expensive anti-Kavanaugh campaign.

“To its everlasting disgrace, the ACLU is abandoning its mission in order to follow the money. It now spends millions of dollars on TV ads that are indistinguishable from left wing organizations, such as MoveOn, the Democratic National Committee and other partisan groups,” Dershowitz wrote.

He pointed out that despite their obvious shift toward being a Democratic Party hack organization, the ACLU still deceptively advertises themselves as “non-partisan” when nothing could be further from the truth.

“The old ACLU would never have been silent when Michael Cohen’s office was raided by the FBI and his clients’ files seized; it would have yelled foul when students accused of sexual misconduct were tried by kangaroo courts; and it surely would have argued against a presumption of guilt regarding sexual allegations directed against a judicial nominee,” Dershowitz wrote.

Dershowitz – a life-long Democrat – says he was a former ACLU board member when the organization “cared about applying the constitution fairly to everyone, without regard to the political consequences.” Those days are long gone, as the ACLU only protected civil liberties right up until the point of when they were really at stake. They have joined the mob demanding an end to due process and the presumption of innocence, and the organization’s credibility will never recover.
