During an event in support for immigrant Debora Vasquez-Barrios, who has taken refuge within the walls of an Upper West Side church, former Sex and the City actress and current Democratic candidate for governor called Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) a “terrorist” organization.
“ICE has strayed so far away from its mission. It is supposed to be here to keep Americans safe but what it has turned into frankly is a terrorist organization of its own. That is terrorizing people who are coming to this country,” she reportedly said.
Now, Nixon wants to abolish the agency.
“I think we need to abolish ICE. That seems really clear,” she concluded.
Long before the Democrat made this comment, countless elected officials had already suggested cutting agencies. Both because of waste and because of the terror they instill on everyday Americans.
Could Nixon be starting to think a bit like a so-called small government conservative?
US-Sponsored Domestic Terrorism?
President Donald Trump recently proposed to merge the Departments of Labor and Education. The goal is to promote a major cut in both personnel and responsibilities.
To many on the left, the plan is ludicrous. After all, who will terrorize workers by imposing rules that keep them from obtaining experience, thus making them unable to hold a job? And who will terrorize children, who are taught that not following the progressive ideology is a deadly sin?
In the past, other Republicans have also called for the end of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) branch also created after 9/11, like ICE.
At the time, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) made the case that TSA officials are not there to keep us safe. Instead, they are here to terrorize us.
“Every inch of our person has become fair game for government thugs posing as ‘security’ as we travel around the country,” his old petition to abolish the TSA boldly stated.
“The American people shouldn’t be subjected to harassment, groping, and other public humiliation simply to board an airplane,” he also said at the time.
Unfortunately to this day, people continue to be treated unfairly for simply existing in an airport and trying to board a plane. Needless to say, that particular effort to abolish a U.S. agency didn’t go too far.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) recently proposed to abolish the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In his proposal to lawmakers, he said, “Our small businesses cannot afford to cover the costs associated with compliance, too often leading to closed doors and unemployed Americans.”
In other words, the EPA terrorizes individuals who cannot survive because of the cost of meeting its regulations.
Former congressman Ron Paul also called for the end of several agencies. They are: The Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the departments of Energy, Housing and Urban Development, Commerce, Interior, and Education.
Unfortunately, he did not get what he wanted. Now, we continue to be terrorized regularly by these agencies. Directly or indirectly. And mainly because of their restrictive policies producing nothing but abusive consequences.
As you can see, Nixon is on to something.
Efforts to abolish ICE, as well as the TSA and others, deserve a second chance. What’s concerning is that nobody is calling for an end to all terrorist arms of the government. And that Democrats would not be going along with Nixon if she had brought up any other agency.
